  2. Down Syndrome… What is it? (1) Down Syndrome (trisomy 21) is a chromosomal condition caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. (2) There are 47 chromosomes in someone with Down syndrome; the 21st pair has an extra chromosome. Most people have 46 chromosomes. Down syndrome is also known as "Trisomy 21" - a reference to the fact that someone with Down syndrome has 3 pairs of chromosomes on their 21st pair.

  4. Down Syndrome alters appearances. • It affects cognitive ability, physical growth, and facial characteristics. • Flattened nose and face • Upward and slanting eyes • Single palmer crease • Short fifth finder that curves inward • Widely serparated fist and second toes • Increased skin creases

  5. How to prevent Downs There is no real solution to prevent Down Syndrome. However, there have been studies shown that the outcome of having a child(s) with Down Syndrome is more likely with older parents, and their reproductive cells. This includes both the mother, and the father. There are ways to help a child with Downs. Education and proper care will improve the child’s life significantly. Having therapy and perhaps having a physiatrist would also help. Social activities are a good thing too.

  7. Signs to look for at a small age: • Weak Muscles • Small ears • Irregular teeth

  8. How can Down Syndrome affect my child’s life? Downs can affect someones life by indifficulty to learn, by effecting your lungs (breathing), heart defects, and intestinal problems. However, they are not fatal.
