Research Question • How does a range of temperatures, 5ºC, 22ºC, 37ºC, 48ºC, and 60ºC, affect the germination of dry pea seeds as measured by the concentration of carbon dioxide in a closed container of pea seeds and water?
Materials • GLX Xplorer • CO2Gas sensor • green split peas • Tap water • 100 mL graduated cylinders • Balance • weigh boats • Flash drive • Freezer • Two Incubators • thermometers • CO2Sampling bottles • Pipette • Cellophane
Procedure for EACH person: • Mass 10 g of pea seeds in weigh boat (as close as possible) & then put into a 250 mL beaker • Add 25mL of water to the beaker • Cover with cellophane & place in appropriate temperature for 10 minutes. • After 10 minutes, transfer peas and water to a GLX bottle for the GLX CO2 Gas Sensor • Collect data for 10 minutes (10 second intervals) • Clean up & let the next person know the equipment is available. • Bring your text file data to the teacher.
