Comments • Allowed by EU Law in the context of Family reunification (article 7.2) • NL was precursor and been followed by GER, FR and DK • Schemes proposed are very diverse • From very hard requirements (NL) to mere evaluation of language capacities (FR) • Special mention to DK "integration inside the host Member State" (DK) • Legally highly questionable  see first session of the afternoon

Mandatory integration schemes within the Member States: 17 MS • 3 categories of MS • Formal integration contract (6MS with ≠) • “Long” & “Short Style” + LX & BE + ↗ level (2009) • Attendance to mandatory courses (and passing test for GER) is a condition (4MS) • Language and/or orientation tests are precondition for the issuance of a LTR permit (7 MS) • 3 lang. & 4 lang + civic • New phenomenom impact directive 2003/109/EC • Lack of homogeneity: language level and formation
