GIF++ The new Gamma Irradiation Facility at CERN PhysicsDepartment Detector TechnologyGroup Status of procurement: • Formal specifications are under preparation in agreement with DGS-RP-RW to define the following: • 137Cs source: • The source is described as part of the irradiator • Preference is given to purchase a standard source (7.4 or 16.65TBq) • Possibly the 16.65TBq • - One source of 16.65TBq is currently available (delivery of 1 month) • Irradiator: • Usersopted for a single source irradiator (2009) • - Single and multiple source irradiators are standard in industry • Attenuator: • The mechanism of the attenuatorcanbeprovided by industry • - The curvature of all filterswillbesimulated and submitted to approval of users • - Production and adjustment of the lead lensescanbedoneby CERN • - The outer layer (4th) willremain accessible for specialneeds. GIF++ The new Gamma Irradiation Facility at CERN PhysicsDepartment Detector TechnologyGroup • Retrieval of the new irradiator • Experience shows that companies recently established can also rapidly disappear and generate unpredictable costs. • For this reason our specification document will request commitment to: • - receive prompt service, • - announce the cost for regular maintenance, • - plan the recuperation of the irradiator at the end of its service life. • Retrieval of our BA102 irradiator will also be included • in the specification document.
