Transition from Year 1 to Year 2 • Step towards more independence. • Children expected to work hard and do their best. • National Curriculum: aim is for children to achieve the ‘expected standard’. This is a challenging standard for the end of KS1 (Infants). • Further information in a special session (either afternoon or evening) for parents and carers
Our Curriculum for the Year (This may change if new, exciting and appropriate opportunities arise)
Mathematics homework in Year 2 • Mathematics homework is sent home in a homework folder. • Mathematics homework is given out on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. • Please complete homework in pencil. • If your child needs additional help with their homework they can attend ‘Choices’ study club on a Wednesday lunchtime.
Spelling homework in Year 2 • During daily phonics lessons each week your child will learn a new spelling sound/pattern. • Spellings will be sent home linked to this sound/pattern in a spelling folder on a Friday. • The spelling test will take place the following Wednesday. • The spelling test will be carried out in a small spelling book which will stay in school. The spelling scores will be recorded in the spelling file. • Within the spelling folder you will also find the first 100 high frequency words. • By the end of year 2 your child will also need to be able to read and write the next 200 high frequency words and a list of ‘common exception words’. These will also be placed in the folder later in the year. • The high frequency words and common exception words may at times be additional spellings added into the weekly spelling test. • Spelling Shed
Reading • Please listen to your child read at least 3 times a week. • If your child has their reading record signed at least 3 times a week they will have their name on the Star Reader board.
P.E will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. • Please keep P.E. kit in school all week. • Please ensure all earrings are removed. • During winter months the children may wear tracksuit bottoms for outdoor P.E.
Whole Class Rewards • Every week each class collects treasure chests for good behaviour/best work. • The class with the most treasure chests is awarded the toy treasure chest during golden time on Friday afternoon.
Individual Rewards • Each week your child can earn 20 minutes of golden time, for trying their best and good behaviour. • Golden time takes place on a Friday afternoon.
Individual - Rewards Handwriting • Handwriting hero awards are given out in assembly if your child demonstrates good, neat handwriting.
Individual – Class Dojo! • Your child may receive dojo points for good work, good behaviour, being kind etc. • At the end of the week the person with the most points will be awarded the Star of the Week prize and certificate.
Individual Rewards - Super Pupil Certificate • Awarded to one child each week in assembly. • The super pupil is awarded by the class teacher and can be for a range of reasons e.g. trying hard, being a kind friend, meeting a challenge.
Individual Rewards – • Praise and a smile from grown-ups and each other. • Being trusted to do a special job. • The golden glow of personal pride.

(This must be very brief as we have lots of children standing waiting to come into class). • At the end of the day.
