  2. Academically Speaking is a trivia competition for 5th and 6th graders. Each town in Essex county that participated in it assembled their team of 5 to 7 participants. • Each team puts up 3 of their students (one of them being the captain) up to battle against the other team and tries to win the contest. • The teammates were notified during their Nutley Talent classes about the competition, and started to practice during lunch, as well as after school. What is it ?

  4. Our team consisted of 7 students from 3 of the 5 schools in Nutley. They are as follows: Radcliffe School: Ian Brown(captain), Christian Roser Washington School: Sarah Takhim Yantacaw School: Krishna Desai Suvan Bhat Jake Shoemaker Philip Ruiz(manager) Coach: Mrs. Woods- Murphy (Nutley Talent teacher) Assistant Coach: Sebastian Ruiz Nutley’s Team (continued)

Round1: - 4 minutes- 30 questions - May interrupt - Buzzer round - Only the person who signals may answer - No discussion permitted - +10 correct -5 incorrect • Round 2: - 1 ½ minutes- 10 questions - Discussion permitted - +10 correct -10 incorrect - Passed and incorrect questions not available to the other team - 50 point bonus for all questions answered correctly before 1 ½ minutes • Round 3: - 1 ½ minutes- 10 questions - Discussion is permitted - +20 correct -20 incorrect - Passed questions are available to the other team - +50 bonus - Incorrect questions not available to the other team The Rules

Team Presentations(welcoming speech) Substitutions • Round4 - 1 ½ minutes- 10 questions - Discussion permitted - +20 correct -20 incorrect - +50 bonus - Teams may double - (+40 -40) - Incorrect and Passed questions available [+ or – 20] May discuss on pickups • Round 5 - 4 minutes- 30 questions - Discussion permitted - +20 correct -20 incorrect - Incorrect questions available IMMEDIATELY (Only the person who signals may answer) - Interrupted questions answered incorrectly will be read in their entirety for the other team - Buzzer round The Rules (continued)

  7. The questions ranged from: • History • Science • Math • Social Studies • Current Events • Geography The Range of Questions

  8. First Round- Bloomfield vs. Nutley

  9. Our team was down early but came back and pulled away to beat Bloomfield by about 200 points. • Our win in Round 1 advanced us to Round 2 vs. Livingston. First Round- Results

  10. Second Round-Livingston vs. Nutley

  11. We lost by a small margin of 30 points against Livingston. We were eliminated from the tournament but we came in 3rd place in Essex county. We had a great experience and Nutley put up a good fight. Second Round- Results
