  2. Communicating with Color • Color in a publication can: • Elicit feelings • Emphasize important text • Attract attention • Choose one or two colors • Use “spot color” by using color only in specific areas

  3. Printing the Publication • Print all copies on a color printer • Print on a color printer and duplicate with a color photocopier • Print on colored paper • Print on specialty paper

  4. Color Terminology • Balance: Amount of light and dark in a picture • Color wheel: Device used to illustrate color relationships • Contrast: Amount of gray in a color • Gradient: Gradual varying of color • Hue: Variation of a color, such as green-blue

  5. Color Terminology • Pixel: Each dot in a picture or graphic • Resolution: The number of dots that make up an image on a screen or printer • Reverse: Black background on white foreground or white type against a colored background • Saturation: Purity of a color
