An Economic Development Strategy Framework for Boddington District The strategy identifies: • Where we are now – a profile of Boddington and regional and global context • Where we want to be in the future – a 30+ year vision • How we are going to get there - a set of strategic, priority activities – an economic model • Leadership and direction – to help guide partnerships, decisions, resource use, manage conflict and trade offs • A framework for monitoring, evaluating and reviewing

Business survey and workshops Preliminary business survey results: • 29 surveys returned (16 Boddington) • Majority operate from ‘home premises’ • Main industry sectors included mining, retail, and construction • Majority of respondents have an annual turnover of less than $100k • Majority of businesses have been in operation at least 5 years • NBN Broadband would improve operations • All business use local supply chain for some element

Examples of Projects and Programs • Expand local delivery of training and corporate education programs (Newmont / BGM) • General Manager of the Caterpillar Institute (Perth) in recessions, training is often abandoned and Australia has suffered as a result. A District settlement of 10,000 people has: • Reliable high level power, water, sewerage, access, ITC • Employment land (232Ha) for additional 3,800 jobs • Residential land for additional 750 homes • District and Local playing fields • Indoor recreation centre • Skate park, BMX track • Sport club rooms • 4 neighbourhood centres • Sub-district library • Sub-district child care centre • Small youth centre • Seniors centre • Community health clinic • Plus other specific community related items
Three broad causes of population growth: • Expansion of the economic base; • In-bound migration of people with no direct economic link to the district; • Increase in the number of ‘local’ mining employees. Three scenarios in the context of the Super-Towns initiative: Scenario 1: ‘Business as Usual’ • No major new initiatives, incremental change from current Scenario 2: SuperTowns Initiatives • Growth as a result of SuperTowns initiatives, requires significant area based economic stimulus focused on human capital and skills Scenario 3: ‘Aspirational’ • Accelerated growth exceeding expectations, requires multi sectoral economic stimuli, financial incentives/subsidies and catalyst projects
