Cluster development process • What are clusters? • Groups of businesses working in related activities – eg residential construction • Identification of clusters • Quantitative techniques to assess what the Capes region is strong in • Locational quotients – share of employment by sector greater than whole of WA • Input-output – flow of goods and services between industries, from primary input and to final demand • Shift-share – changes in number of jobs 2001-2006
