  1. Graduate Project“The Bike Ride”From Wichita to El DoradoBy: Mike

  2. The Motivation • The motivation behind this stems from a client of mine who rode his bike from the Riverside area of Wichita to are office at TFI for 6 months to have a two hour visit with his two boys. He did not have access to a vehicle but was determined to have visits with his children. • I thought to myself when the project was assigned and instantly I knew it was what I wanted to do. • I think often times many of us myself included could never imagine life without owning a vehicle and we take for granted how much of a struggle it is for those who walk, bike or use public transportation.

  3. The Bike and Distance • The distance from my house was 24.5 miles and the expected length via Google maps was 2 hours and 3 minutes. • The bike was a Schwinn 405 mountain bike with a Bell seat cushion. QuikTrip 37th and Rock 39th and Webb 7:16 AM 7:27 AM

  4. The Journey • Breakfast consisted of a bottle of water, a banana and a bunch of awkward looks as I sat in a ditch. County Line Rd. and Butler Rd. I was thinking Andover isn't to far away, should I call it quits. 17 miles left, 8:23 AM – 8:35 AM

  5. The Journey • The country roads were making this tough. • The dogs were also up for their morning walks. • Random Horse Farm

  6. The Journey • Like I said the dogs were out!!! • Thank God for “Shock Collars”.

  7. One of the Actual Dogs • I believe his names Diablo!

  8. The Journey • US Hwy 254 • Nervous times on 254 with the semi’s and all. • As you can see the side lame was a good size area. Towanda Ohio and 254 9:30 AM 10:03 AM

  9. What I Learned • Throughout my journey it gave me clarity to be thankful for the things I have and reinforced not to take things for granted. • Also my appreciation for those who walk, bike or use public transportation has grown. As often times they are up hours before their scheduled shifts in order to be there on time. • It posed the question would I be the same way? Would you? • Again my love and appreciation for shock collars. Man I love those things. • Lastly poverty is no joke and there are hardworking, family oriented individuals who are fighting to end poverty for themselves and their loved ones. • I MADE IT!!!!!!!!!! • 10:23 AM

  10. Special Thanks • A special thanks is in order for the following • My Co-workers as I borrowed the bike from one of them, also to the ones who drove past to check on me, mapped out my route and clapped me in down the home stretch. • My buddies at the gym who prayed for me. • John from Viola Ks. Who took the picture of me on Hwy 254 and offered me a ride. • My friend Brandon who had nothing going on so he talked with me on the phone. • The Bobby Bones Show & Pandora
