What It’s About In this book it takes place in Germany in the 1800s Theresa Maria’s father is brought to family’s doorstep on Christmas Eve, dead. He was a musician who played the violin that was supposed to play a concert that night. The men who brought him home were close friends of his specifically a man named Zoltan. Zoltan says they found her father’s body under a bridge in the gypsy town without his very valuable violin. When Theresa asks Zoltan about how he would of gotten there, all he says is ‘We went drinking after the concert’ but when they examine her fathers body they find a large golden medallion. Her mother immediately fell ill. To figure out her father’s death, Theresa took an internship helping her godfather and the maestro of her father’s orchestra. He told her her father didn’t perform in the Christmas Eve concert. Their father made all the money in the family and science he passed away they needed money so Theresa’s mother insisted she marry and go to her wealthy uncle’s home to beg for a dowry. Once her uncle accepted, she was given the finest gowns and asked to go to a ball to meet a certain man.
What It’s About con. She was told by Zoltan who was at the ball to guide her to give a note to the man who was a terrible duke that killed gypsies. As she danced with him she handed him the note in a private room. Once he read it he became infuriated but soon after Zoltan and a few other masked men came out and captured the man. When she came out of the room, she went to look for her brother who had acted as her page for the ball but when she reached the page station he was gone and only a few page boys were left. She asked the page manager and he told her that her uncle had come earlier and taken many of the boys saying their masters needed them. As she made her way to her uncle’s house she looks for her brother Toby and is also trapped in a cellar by one of her uncle’s servants. When she escaped she finds Zoltan in the gypsy village he takes her to a party that is taking place in her uncle’s house where she acts as a boy and plays the viola in the orchestra. She soon begins searching for her brother and finds him in the cellar with many other little boys that were going to be sold to Turkey as slaves. She hides in a corner but then her uncle appears and before he sees her, she shoots the pistol she had hidden in her coat.
What It’s About con. con. Finally, her uncle is brought to trial before the emperor and is sentenced to jail for the rest of his life for kidnapping, and murder for, he had been the one to kill her father because he needed the maestro to not be able to read his notes because that is what Theresa was doing for her internship and was what her father was doing before he died, because if the maestro couldn’t read notes, he would be removed and her uncle could take over the orchestra that was secretly helping take the boys back from her uncle before they were sold to Turkey as slaves.
