  1. Introduction to Engineering DesignPuzzle Cube Project

  2. Puzzle Objectives: • Design a puzzle with 6 parts that fit together to make a cube • You will use ¾” wooden cubes to create your puzzle • Once completed, the cubes will be glued together to make six different parts • Each part must consist of 3-6 blocks • No two parts can be identical

  3. Project Requirements: • Part Combination Activity 40pts • Stacked cube drawings 40pts • Two possible solutions • IPT (Inventor Part) files 30pts • IAM (Inventor Assembly) file 30pts • IPN (Inventor Presentation) file 15pts • IDW (Inventor Drawing) - dimensioned 60pts

  4. Part Combination activity • Begin by completing the part combination activity. 40pts • You will need Isometric Grid Paper • This will help you visualize the many different shapes the parts can take.

  5. Isometric grid paper with sample Part Combinations Sketches don’t have to be perfect.

  6. Developing solutions • You must design a workable solution. 40pts • The easiest way to do this is by using the stacked cube drawing that represents each layer in the puzzle. • Assign a color to each part and color the coordinating blocks in the stack

  7. Stacked Cube Drawing: Part Red Example • The red colored dots form the shape in the stacked cube. • Continue with this method until you have six parts and all blocks are assigned a color • Be sure not to duplicate a part!

  8. Creating IDW files for your six IPT files…. • Make sure that the part is not turned, it should appear the way it does in the stacked cube drawing. • You can color parts in Inventor, make your isometric colored.
