  2. FLORENCE LIFE • Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy, 12th May 1820. Her parents were William Nightingale and Fanny Nightingale. As a child, Florence was very close to her father, who, without a son, treated her as his friend and companion. He took responsibility for her education and taught her Greek, Latin, French, German, Italian, history and mathematics. • She wanted to be a nurse but her parents did not want her to become one.So she disobeyed her parents and trained as a nurse.

  3. CRIMEAN WAR • In 1853 the Crimean war started. • In Britain there were newspaper reports of the terrible conditions soldiers were suffering. • Florence was asked to go to the Crimea to help the wounded soldiers.

  5. HEROINE • When Florence returned to Britain she was a heroine. • She had songs written about her because of her good works and was given many awards including one from Queen Victoria.

  6. FLORENCE DEATH • Florence died at the age of 90 (1910)
