The Graveyard Book • Review: Drawing inspiration from Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book, Gaiman tells the story of an orphaned boy, raised not in a jungle by animals but in a graveyard by ghosts. Bod, short for nobody, wanders into the graveyard as an infant as his family is dispatched by ‘the man Jack”. In the graveyard, Bod is discovered by the kindly ghosts of Mr. and Mrs. Owens, who entice the other local spirits to take the boy in and grant him the “Freedom of the Graveyard”. • Reviewed by Brian Farrey Cover What's it’s about
How To Get the Book • The library system has a lot of copies. You can reserve yourself one. • Ask a librarian to reserve copy for you. • You can go and buy your own copy of the book.
How We Discuss the Books • When we discuss the books everyone’s ideas are important. • Speak freely, don’t be shy. • No one should be judged on what they say.
The Book Club Website www.gfjteenbookclub.wordpress.com • This website was made for a few reasons: • One, it allows people to be members when they don’t have time to come to meetings. • Second, it allows members to continue to discuss the books after meetings. • Third it give members a place to find out what is going on in the club.

Halloween Party • I have set up a Halloween Party for you. • Date October 19th • Time:2:00-4:00 • Place: GFJ Library • For Ages 12-16. Ages 17-19 can help out.
Pottermore Book Discussion • If you guys are interested, I can set up a date to celebrate the release of Pottermore. • We would discuss Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that will be on Pottermore in October. • We can then do more Pottermore events when the other books come out. • When would you like to meet?
Movie Nights • Many books are becoming movies this year. • Many books are already movies. • The Hunger Games is coming out in March. • We can set up dates to see movies both at movie theaters and at the library.
GFJ Teen Writing Program • This writing program will be a way for teens who like to write to express themselves. • Your writings will be put into a Literary Magazine that I will create. • There will be writing Challenges like Scary Story Challenge where you can win prizes. • What do you think about it?
Your Suggestions • Your Turn. What do you want to do as a Club? • Cathy is also always looking for suggestions for Summer Programs. • Cathy and I are also always looking for volunteers to help out. So if you are interested came and talk to one of use.
