Partners of the Americas International: Who we are • Founded in 1964 as the people-to-people component of the Alliance for Progress • Partners of the Americas (Partners) is the largest private voluntary organization in the Western Hemisphere
The Indiana Chapter of the Partners of the Americas • In Nov. 1964, RS Businessman Dante Campana chose IN over WI to be their Partner state; • In 1965, IN-RS Partners began with Dean Robert Carmin of Ball State as Indiana’s 1st President
What We Do • Early Years (1962-1965) • Birth of Private Sector Org (1966-1969) • The Growing Years (1970-1978) • Years of Sustained Growth ( 1979-1984) • The Achievement Years (1985-1994) • Adjustment to New Democracies (1994-03) • The New Millenium Model (2003- present)
We need Citizen Participation • Through volunteer efforts, citizens share their skills to solve common problems and promote broader participation in resolving those problems • Volunteers are essential to a strong society and healthy communities.
We Mobilize Hemispheric Collaboration • By establishing a network of permanent linkages among people, institutions and communities across the Americas
Leadership Development • Indiana Partners of the Americas works to identify emerging leaders across the state; enhances their skills, and provides opportunities for sharing information and ideas with colleagues throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and the U.S.
Strengthening Partnerships • Partner volunteers know the needs of their counterpart countries and institutions. • Partners strengthens capacity in the areas of management, fiscal accountability, fundraising, project development, monitoring and evaluation
