APES Sustainability Project Emma Fontaine Jason Laird Sara Killeen Sochinda Noun
Introduction • Sustainable: Capable of being continued with minimal long-term effect on the environment • Monitor energy use to make CV more sustainable • Entire F wing (Moses to Cornell)
Sustainability • To become sustainable: • Eliminate buildup of fossil fuels • Eliminate buildup of chemicals • Eliminate physical degradation of nature • Eliminate conditions that undermine people’s capacity to meet basic needs
Methods • Walkthroughs • Discussions with Teachers • Final Email
F-Wing Problems • Heat lamps had to stay on • Computer labs were difficult to manage • Equipment was usually left plugged in (microscopes)
Analysis • No significant trends • Obvious changes in attitudes during check-ins • Willingness to unplug lights, turn off lights, shut off power strips • Received the message
Discussion: What would we change? • Involve janitorial staff • Require that teachers used only half of the lights • Send out weekly emails
