Warm-Up • Give the log or exponential form of the following statements:
Properties of Logs Section 7.2.1
Learning Targets • Determine the Power Property of Logs • How to use the Power Property of Logs
P. 330 7-88 • a) Compare the graphs of… • Are the graphs the same? • b) Convert both logs into exponential form to prove your answer from part a
7-89 • Use either strategy from 7-88 to determine if the following statements are true or false: • A) FALSE • B) FALSE • C) TRUE • D) FALSE
Lets Take a Closer Look • This was the only statement of the four that was true. What do you notice about it? • Base? • Exponent? • New Form?
Does this always hold true? • Check the graphs or values of the following:
Power Property of Logs • This is known as the Power Property of Logs • The log is always in base 10 • The exponent is brought down and multiplies the log of b • This is a much more useful way to determine the value of variables in the exponents than always having to convert to log form and solve using different bases
Using the Power Property • We can use this property in order to solve for variables that are exponents • Lets use as an example
Using the Power Property • Remember this is algebra, what we do to one side of the equation has to be done to the other side!!!
We could also write it as… • Remember this is algebra, what we do to one side of the equation has to be done to the other side!!!
