2. The Setting • The setting of the book is in present time Brooklyn New York. Clary and Simon are at a party and Jace and Alec are there hunting a demon. It looked like Jace and Alec killed a normal person but it was a demon in disguise.

3. Clary • Clary is a normal girl that lives in New York until she finds out, that she is a shadow hunter, she is the protagonist.

4. Jace • Jace has been a shadow hunter most of his life . He has blonde hair and blue eyes and he is in love with Clary.

5. Alec Lightwood • Alec Lightwood is a shadow hunter at the Brooklyn institute for shadow hunters. He has dark shaggy hair.

6. Isabella Lightwood • Isabella also known as Bella in the book is Alec`s little sister in the book. She has dark long hair and her favorite weapon is a knife.

7. Max Lightwood • Max Lightwood is the youngest of the Lightwoods, he is 9 years old. He also has dark brown hair and he is still in training to be a shadow hunter.

8. Simon • Simon has been Clary`s best friend ever since they were two years old. He has very dark brown hair and blue eyes. He is not a shadow hunter and he will be turned into a vampire later on in the book.

9. The Lightwoods • The Lightwoods all have about the same characteristics but Bella is not as much intent on being a shadow hunter as Jace and Max are.

10. Recommendation • I would recommend the city of bones to ages 12-45. If you like adventure, mystery, fantasy, and surprises you would probably like the city of bones.

11. Summary • Clary Fray is no ordinary girl, she is part of a demon hunting race called shadow hunters. After being attacked by ravener demons (poisonous too) she is sent to a shadow hunter safe house called a institute. With her new friends Simon, Isabel, Alec and Jace they will embark on a perilous journey to find her mother. During the journey she finds out her father`s name is Valentin and he is evil.
