Ms. Stepuszek(Ms. S) • Education: central Michigan university, bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood development and learning • Past work experience: Summit Hill school district 161 special education paraprofessional and substitute • I have two dogs Zoey and bella

expectations • All of the students will be entering the class with different skill levels! - This class is designed to teach to each students development level - We will be using scaffold learning to meet the needs of all students • We do expect your child to be potty trained • They should be able to respond to their name • They should be able to identify some colors and shapes
Social emotional goals It is our hope that by the end of this school year your student will be able to: • Follow verbal directions • Showing empathy toward other children • Starting to show self control • Becoming interested in playing with other children (parallel play) • Sharing/taking turns • Communicate with peers and adults appropriately • Listen when others are speaking • Sit and focus on an activity for short time periods • Ask questions
Academic goals This is a social based preschool but we want the students to be prepared for kindergarten. It is our hope that they will learn: • Colors • Shapes • Letters • Numbers 1-20 and counting • Writing their first and last names • Opposites • rhyming • Positional words • Sorting: size, shape, and colors • Patterns • Sequencing • Letter and sound identification • Blending sounds • Sight words
Fine and gross motor skills Fine motor • Holding a pencil/crayon correctly (pincher grasp) • Coloring in the lines • Printing first and last name • Using scissors correctly • Tracing lines and shapes • Printing letters and numbers Gross motor • Riding a tricycle • Bouncing a ball • Throwing a ball • Jumping • Running • Hopping on one foot
Homework policy • Homework will be given out every Monday • It needs to be completed and returned the following Monday • What will be for homework? - Bringing in an object for the color and shape of the week -letter or number writing worksheet -each child will be assigned a day for their ‘all about me’ poster and show and tell
Class structure Structure is very important for students! What their day will look like: • Drop off • Students will enter and trace or write their names • We will transition to circle time • We will then start centers • Indoor free play • Snack • Outside free play • Pick up
Behavior chart • Green: They are following directions and acting appropriate • Yellow: they will receive a verbal warning and be asked to move their stick • Red: They will receive a note home about why they were struggling in class and they will move their stick • Students that get to red will have to sit down with the teacher and talk about what might be causing the problem. We hope that talking about the issue with the student will help prevent issues in the future
Drop off policy • Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before the start of the day • Hang up coats and have any homework in hand • Line up outside the classroom with your child • When the doors open we will greet each child individually • Once your child has been greeted and enters the classroom you may leave
Birthdays and snack • Your child will be assigned 2-3 days during the school year that you are required to provide a snack for the class. This requires a healthy snack and juice. • Birthdays: each of your students will be celebrating their birthday during the school year. If your child has a summer birthday we will celebrate on their half birthday. • Birthday snacks: you may bring in a special treat on your child’s birthday, this would be one of the assigned days. • Birthday readers: family members are invited to come in on their child’s birthday and read the students favorite book to the class. This will happen the last 15 minutes of class.
sickness If your child is sick please keep them at home. We do not want to spread germs around to other students or staff. If they have a fever, diarrhea, and/or vomiting keep them home for at least 24 hours after the symptoms have stopped. We do not have a nurse on hand therefore if your child is sick someone will need to come and pick them up Bathroom accidents: if your child has occasional accidents please send in a change of clothes in a bag labeled with the students name. you will be called and notified of any accidents.
