Big Idea Family Life… Past and Present
Essential Questions • 1. What difficulties did settlers have? • 2. How are the lives of Pilgrims and American Indian families different/same than our families today. • 3 What do you think the Pilgrims and the Indians talked about during their first celebration harvest?
Enduring Understandings • Settlers encountered many difficulties when they came to America. • The life of Pilgrims &American Indians were very different than today. • The Pilgrims first harvest celebration is why we celebrate Thanksgiving today.
Evidence of learning • Students will each bring in something that they think is “old” from home. They will take pictures of their product and/or of each other. • Then they will write what it is, what it is used for and how time has changed the need of it. • They will recite and record in GarageBand and a small group will help me make a podcast. I will publish on our site.
Evidences of Learning Independent Work • On going chart here students add pictures of things they have drawn form the past or present.
Evidences of learning • Students will work in three groups to write a short essay about food, shelter, and clothing of the Wapanoag, Pilgrims, and families today. • Each student will write and record in GarageBand two sentences on their topic. • Each unit I will choose a small group to help me create a podcast and publish on our class website.
