  2. The year 1970 saw the Grateful Dead play more shows during that one year then ever before- or since- with a total of 145 shows! The Grateful Dead never played more than 87 shows after 1970. In June of 1980, the band traveled all the way to Alaska to play three gigs! The Dead were one of the few bands that allowed their fans to tape their shows; in fact, they even set aside a section behind the soundboard exclusively for tapers and their equipment (1984).
