  3. What is CAS? • CASstands for Creativity, • for Action, • for Service.

  4. What is CAS? Think of CAS as the “active” component of IB education, outside of the classroom, which will combine, athletic, creative and service-minded activities.

  5. CAS: Experiential Learning Learning by doing real tasks that have real consequences and then reflecting on these experiences

  6. Creative Activities • Visual Arts & Creative Writing • Debate Team • Theatre Performances (non-credited) • Model UN • Yearbook Club • Playing a musical instrument • Leadership • Initiating Activities

  7. Action • Individual & team sports • Hiking & outward bound • Yoga • Expeditions (non-subject related)

  8. Service An Unpaid and Voluntary exchange, Meeting Community Needs, that has a Learning Benefit for the Student • Volunteer with Generation Earth or AfrikaTikkun • Peer tutoring at school or outside • Community improvement • NGO

  9. Why are we doing CAS?CAS is an IB diploma requirement: Failure to meet the requirements will result in no IB diploma being awarded www.ibo.org

  10. The ultimate goal of CAS and IB? The ultimate goal of CAS is to foster a form of service, such as applying science to the environment, or applying technology to the design of devices to help people, or to improve living conditions in a home, which benefits both server and served

  33. Why is CAS IMPORTANT ? Because we should learn “How life works”

  34. Why is CAS IMPORTANT ? Because we have good qualities we are unaware of, have inner resources we haven’t discovered, and have opportunities we never dreamed of

  38. How is CAS being assessed? • Evidence of learning: • Insightful Two Week Reflections in Managebac • Meeting all 8 Learning Outcomes throughout the entire CAS program • Final CAS Project Presentation

  39. How is CAS being assessed? • Evidence of participation: • Minimum requirement of 18 months • Attendance Records • Supervisor Reviews

  41. REMEMBER: A good CAS Program should be both challenging and enjoyable A personal journey of self-discovery Including experiences that are profound and life-changing
