ESTB Stage II: Hadron Production • Add Be target, beam dump, analyzing magnet, momentum slit, and quadrupole doublets to produce a secondary hadron beam • Production angle = 1.35O and Acceptance = 10 sr C.Hast, ESTB Workshop SLAC, March 2011
ESTB Stage II: Components • Move Collimator (BSY) • Design, build and install Be-target (BSY) • Design, build and install insertable dump / collimator (BSY) • Retrieve and install bend magnet (for momentum selection) (ESA) • Retrieve and install 4 quadrupoles (BSY/ESA) • Design, build and install collimator (ESA) • Additional vacuum system (ESA) • Many any other odds and ends Serious effort! Shorter Bunch Length for ESTB • Interest for shorter bunches (CLIC, accelerator R&D, etc) • LCLS ultra-short bunch length: 10 mm and shorter • In A-line, bunch length increases to 280 mm due to strong bends (24o) and large (optics) R56 • With existing optics: 20-30 mm bunch length ispossible if one manages to reduce R56 by a factor 3-4 and keep sE=0.02% Lew, Ted and Jury are looking into that • Possible to preserve short bunches in ESA with adequate $ support by interested parties … C.Hast, ESTB Workshop SLAC, March 2011
