JFRAC Activities in 2005 WG meeting (March 22) • Chairman Sho Hashimoto Kentaro Tanabe (June 1 2005- ) • Participation of JFRAC chairman in FRAC SC - more difficult since it was separated from BCPC congress - Possible participation from branch offices of Japanese companies - When no participants are available, the chairman may attend by phone/online • JFRAC Action plans in future - Propose original recommendation, when global one obviously does not fit to Japanese agricultural circumstances • Financial resources - Under negotiation with JCPA international affairs committee WG meeting (May 27) • Ask Ishihara to attend FRAC SC in June on behalf of Tanabe - Report by Honda (ISK Bioscience Europe) was distributed to JFRAC WG (July 13) • Feedback for first Japanese translation of FRAC recommendation in 2003 - Users are limited experts and prefer reading in English stop further translation (proposed to FRAC SC members from Tanabe on Aug 22) - To prepare new Japanese website linked to FRAC, containing: WG members, contact address Simplified “ mode of action list “ in Japanese (not for experts)
Fungicide resistance review in 2005 Japan Rice blast • Infection level was very low in general. • Monitoring activities by molecular assay (mostly for MBI-D) - By manufacturers - By local crop protection offices of each prefecture level • MBI-D: Mutant reports Complaints Use • MBI-D resistant isolates may have fitness penalty (publication in Japanese) • QoI : neither G143 nor F129 mutation has ever been reported. Use • Benzimidazole : No monitoring activities, no complaints, Use • MBI-R : No monitoring activities, no complaints, Use Botrytis • First report of QoI resistance (citrus) Alternaria mali • First report of G143A but it was not granted as a pathogen of leaf spot Apple sooty blotch • QoI : complaints , monitoring activities started, G143A is not reported so far
Fungicide resistance focus in 2006 Japan Rice blast • Monitoring activities by prefectures will increase for MBI-D • QoI : Monitoring mainly by industries Fusarium head blight (except Microdochium nivale) • DMI : small scale scouting by limited prefectures • Benzimidazoles : monitoring activities may increase in some prefectures in west Japan Powdery mildew (strawberry, cucurbit) • QoI : Nationwide monitoring in relation with a MAFF project (?) Apple diseases (Alternaria, Sooty blotch, Blotch) • QoI : small scale scouting by some prefectures
