Veteran Disability Rating For Gross Impairment Gross impairment is a Veterans Affairs umbrella term used to define an individual unable to lead a completely normal life because a mental illness is extremely severe They may not have a regular job, maintain healthy relationships, or manage a home. In this context, “gross” indicates an overall impairment affecting every area of a veteran’s life. A veteran disability rating for gross impairment differs from a usual 100% disability rating because it is related to mental illness
