  2. Scene 1 • The scene starts with Benvelio and Mercutio out in the streets. Benvolio wants to go home because the Caplets are out. • Starting in line 16, Mercutio talks about who he would fight and why he would fight • Line 46 Tybalt ask for Romeo (I wonder why he is looking for Romeo) • Mercutio continues to be a peace keeper

  3. Scene 1……..continued • Line 63, Romeo appear and says he can’t fight Tybalt because he loves Tybalt (Why does he all of a sudden Love Tybalt) • Mercutio agrees to fight Tybalt • Linen87 Romeo asks Benvolio to lift his sword and help break up the fight • Line 92, During the fight with Tybalt, Mercutio is stabbed. After he is stabbed, he pretends that he isn’t hurt. • Romeo is upset that Mercutio dies and wants revenge on Tybalt. (line119 talks about how Juliet has made him weak)

  4. Scene 1 ……continued • Romeo chases after Tybalt……they fight • Romeo stabs and kills Tybalt • After the fight, Prince arrives and once again asks Benvlio what happened (line 160) • The Prince banishes Romeo instead of sentencing him to death (line 196) IS THIS A GOOD/FAIR PUNISHMENT FOR ROMEO???

Scene 2 • Juliet is at her house waiting for Romeo to arrive for their wedding night (lines 5-31 talks about how wonderful and beautiful Romeo is) • The Nurse arrive with the rope ladder (why a rope ladder) Line 42 says “he’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead. • Line 51, Juliet assumes that the Nurse means that Romeo has killed himself • Line 67, the Nurse starts talking about Tybalt and Juliet is REALLY confused.

Scene 2………continued • Line 99, the Nurse begins to talk bad about Romeo and Juliet gets upset. • Line 106, Juliet yells at the Nurse because she is talking bad about her husband • Line 115 talks that If Tybalt would have lived, Romeo (Juliet’s husband) would have died • Line135 Juliet says that banishment = death and then begins to talk about death • Line 151, the Nurse agrees to go find Romeo and make sure he comes to her tonight. The Nurse also takes Romeo a ring to give to him

  7. Scene 3 • Romeo is hiding at Friar’s cell waiting for the Friar to bring news about the punishment from the Prince • Line 13, the Friar tells Romeo he has been banished and Romeo says he might as well be dead • Speech in line 35, Romeo continues to say how it isn’t fair that everyone, including a simple fly can see Juliet but Rome will not be able to see her. • Line 75, the Nurse arrive at the Friar’s cell

  8. Scene 3…..continued • Line92, the Nurse enters and asks the Friar how Romeo is doing. The Nurse finds out that Romeo has been crying like a baby. Line 97, Nurse tells Romeo to stand up and be a man • Line 118, Romeo hearing that Juliet is upset, attempts to stab himself • The Friar tells Romeo to stand up and be a man. Tells his he is fortunate. • Line 156 the Friar tells Romeo to go to Juliet’s and comfort her, but when morning comes he must go to Mantua and wait for word from the Friar about how to make things better.

  9. Scene 4 • Paris and Capulet are talking about the wooing of Juliet • Line 15, Capulet lets Paris know that Juliet will do what ever her father says. Capulet send his wife to wake up Juliet and tell her that she will marry Paris on Wednesday. After Capulet realizes that today is Monday, he says that Juliet will Marry Paris on Thursday (Remember the play only last 5 days and we are already on day 2)

  10. Scene 5 THIS IS DAY 3 Romeo and Juliet are arguing if it is morning or if it is night (Lark vs. Nightingale) They decide it is morning Line 66nRomeo must leave because Juliet’s mom is looking for her (the Nurse lets Juliet know this) Line 92, Lady Capulet tells Juliet that she is going to send someone to poison Romeo (Juliet tells her mother that she wants to be the one to poison Romeo)

  11. Scene ……continued • Line 115, Juliet asks her mother why she is so happy • Lady Capulet then tells Juliet about her marriage to Paris • Line 121, Juliet is UPSET!!! She tells her father that SHE WILL NOT MARRY PARIS • Capulet tells Juliet that SHE WILL MARRY Paris or she will be disowned and put out on the street

  12. Scene 5…..continued • Line 208, Juliet begs her mother to delay the marriage • Juliet then asks the Nurse for her help and the Nurse say……line 225……… • Juliet then tells the Nurse she is leaving to go ask the Friar for a remedy if there is no remedy she will kill herself (line 252)
