Area Layout • A house is divided into 3 areas of design • Living Area--show place of home • Service or Work Area • Sleeping Area • Areas balance out to be roughly 1/3 of space

Area Planning--Living Area • Typical Rooms: • Living room--typically used to entertain guests or for quiet conversations • Dining room • Family room • Den/Study/Office • Entrance/Foyer • Porch/Patio/Terrace(Outside living)

Kitchen Designs • Work Triangle--straight line distance summation between the work spaces of the kitchen to be not less than 15’ or more than 22’
Kitchen Work Triangle • Divided into three main work spaces or areas • Storage area--includes refrigerator, freezer, pantry • Space design requirements(minimum) • 40 sq ft for general storage • additional 6 sq ft each person in family • Preparation area--includes cooking(stove) and counters • Cleaning center--includes sink, garbage disposal and dishwasher
