COURSE OVERVIEW: The course teaches students Information Technology (IT) fluency, knowledge in certain computer applications, IT principles, problem solving and reasoning, and basic web programming (HTML and JavaScript). Lab 4: Microsoft Excel Basics Lab 3: Basic HTML CSE 3:Fluency with Information Technology By: Michelle Robbins Lab 5: Advanced Work in Excel The object of this lab was to learn and implement basic Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Notepad++ is a computer program that lets students produce HTML. Student’s explored how to create font that was bold, italicized, and underlined, as well as, connecting a certain web link to a word or group of words. Students learned some more advanced data manipulation and analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel. Using the graph, students were encouraged to analyze certain points that dramatically changed. They also learned how to design a line graph and its trend line. Students learned the basics of Microsoft Excel. They created pie and column charts using information regarding different information. Lab 6: Tic-Tac-Toe Lab 7: Visual Programming with Scratch Lab 8: Exploring Photoshop Using Microsoft Excel and various functions, students created a working Tic-Tac-Toe game. Students used functions that count turns for player “x” and “o”, keep track of turns, and acknowledges a winner. The sole purpose was to explore more advanced data manipulation and analysis techniques. Scratch was created by MIT’s Media Lab. It is a computer program that helps students learn how to construct basic computer programs. Students focused on more programming practice making an animated Tic-Tac-Toe game. In Lab #7 students created an animated Tic-Tac-Toe game with players being represented by characters (sprites). As in Lab #6, students used functions that made the program recognize a winner and which player’s turn it is. In this lab, students were taught how to manipulate images and create animations in Photoshop. They took a picture of a glacier from one point in time and another picture of the same glacier at a later point in time and designed an animation that showed the melting.
