Who is your counselor? • Mr. Boyd: Students A – F • Ms. Freeman: Students G – N • Mrs. Hillis: Students O – Z
Is your student eligible to go to a four year university? • Have they completed the A – G pattern of classes with grades of C or better? • Have they taken the required tests (SAT, SAT Subject tests, and/or ACT)? • UC System requires the SAT Reasoning and/or ACT with Writing AND two SAT Subject Tests • Cal State System requires SAT Reasoning and/or ACT. • December of senior year last date to take tests. • Do they fall within the eligibility index (score based on a combination of the student’s GPA and test scores)? • www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/scholarshipreq • www.csumentor.edu/Planning/high_school/cal_residents.asp
How much does college cost? • Ventura College: estimated $600/year for fees plus $1250 for books and supplies • Ventura College Promise: The "promise" is that all recent Ventura County high school graduates, regardless of family income, will have their enrollment fees covered during their first year of attendance at Ventura College. http://www.venturacollege.edu/departments/student_services/promise/index.shtml
File a FAFSA by the March 2nd deadline even if: You are not sure you are going to college in the fall You have not yet applied for admission You have not yet been accepted anywhere You can only estimate taxes or income for previous year How do we pay for college? Financial Aid Night coming in January!!! IN TODAY’S DAY AND AGE YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO BORROW AND/OR WORK PART-TIME!!!
Ventura Community College • If you are planning on attending VC, we will take you to the college and help you get registered in the Spring. • IMPORTANT: You CANNOT transfer to a UC or CSU without completing 60 transferable units. This generally means TWO YEARS (or MORE) of community college before you can transfer.
Online College Application Form Workshops During Fall Break: • Visit colleges and universities if you have not done so already. • Create application log-ons and complete as much of the online application forms as you can. • Tuesday, Nov. 4th: CSU Application Workshop • Wednesday, Nov. 5th: UC Application Workshop • Wednesday, Nov. 12th: Private colleges Application Workshop TIME: 2:00 pm PLACE: Media Center Sign up today if you haven’t already!! PLEASE NOTE: Requests for Letters of Recommendation are due to your counselor at least TWO WEEKS before the college or university application deadline!!!
Senioritis Don’t let THIS happen to you! • Continue to take rigorous classes (It is YOUR responsibility to let colleges know if you change your schedule at the semester) • Don’t let your grades slip • Colleges have revoked admissions based on poor academic performance 2nd semester.

How Much Does College Cost? • COMMUNITY COLLEGES • Approximately $ 1850 ( incl. fees and books) unless you plan to attend Community College away from home… i.e. SBCC, Cuesta, etc. • CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY • Approximately $ 15,000 to $ 20,000 • California Resident overall full-time fees/tuition for CSUCI are $2980 (Academic Year). • UNIVERSITY of CALIFORNIA • Approximately $ 17,000 to $ 25,000 • PRIVATE COLLEGES • Range from $ 18,000 to $ 48,000
