The Age of Exploration • This is a time when explorers from Europe went to the Americas • To the Europeans, they had “discovered” new lands, unknown to them. • To the Americans already here, if Europeans were not a threat when they arrived, they soon became one by bringing war, slavery, and diseases the natives had no protection against. • This was the beginning of a time of great change in the Americas.
The Age of Exploration • This was also a time of great change for Europe • Science and learning were improving, giving them the knowledge and technology to go across the Atlantic Ocean. • Their governments were becoming more organized giving them the resources (money) and focus (fewer wars) to be able to explore. • Plus they needed • a new route to China because the old land route was no longer usable.
