MISSION STATEMENT The Physical Education Department at Bolingbrook High School seeks to improve and maintain the fitness and health of students. Lifetime activities are emphasized that can be enjoyed by all students, regardless of their strengths or limitations. Cardiovascular fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and active movement skills are integral components of the curriculum.
ABSENCES Absences MUST BE MADE-UP FOR CREDIT!!! 12 Unexcused absences = AUTOMATIC FAILURE *see next slide TARDY TO CLASS Can be marked tardy to locker room and attendance spot Review tardy policy in handbook ATTENDANCE

NON-DRESS + ABSENCE POLICY MUST BE WEARING TENNIS SHOES!!! • If non-dresses + unexcused absences = 12 or greater = “F” for the semester • Non-dresses may NOT be made-up • Use the rental system if you forget your uniform

To count as “dressed” students must: • First, students check in the following items w/ their teacher: • PE uniform or Active Wear • Their own personal lock (not a friend’s, etc) • Their locker # in your teacher’s row • Students will not receive “dressed” credit until they have been checked in with their teacher, adding to their 12 ND/AU total.
PE MAKE-UPS • Absences • Mon-Friday 6:30am – 7:25am • Must be dressed in PE uniform and meet in Field House • Must participate with the A.M. PE classes • Wednesdays 2:15pm – 2:45pm • Must be dressed in PE uniform or Active Wear • Meet in Field House and sign in with the PE teacher running the session • YOU must make arrangements with your teacher if you cannot make any of these designated times for make-ups to receive your credit • DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE GRADING PERIOD TO COMPLETE MAKE-UPS, YOU WILL RUN OUT OF TIME!!!

Rental Room Will NOT be opened until January 21st, Students must be responsible and get their uniform and lock checked in or they will reach their 12 days quickly!!!
NON-DRESS PE STUDY HALL • All students not dressed for class will: • Check-in with their PE teacher for attendance • Walk with the PE Study Hall teacher to the room • E.128 • Complete the assignment during class time and place it in your teacher’s folder by the end of that period for partial credit for that day • Rules of PE Study Hall • No talking • No electronics (ex. I-pods, phones, CD player, etc) • No passes
POLICIES & PROCEDURES Rental Room • Uniform shirts and shorts • 25¢ per item + student ID • Return uniform at end of period to retrieve ID Weather • Classes go outside until temperature is below 50˚ • Can wear sweatshirt/pants over proper uniform Injuries • Report them to your PE teacher immediately
POLICIES & PROCEDURES Jewelry • NO jewelry during PE class to avoid injury or breaking it Valuables • Bring valuables into locker room AT YOUR OWN RISK • PE Dept. and BHS are not responsible for lost/stolen items
POLICIES & PROCEDURES Locks • MUST check in a lock w/ your teacher • You may bring your own lock • New locks -- $4.25 • Used locks -- $2.00 (as available) • Do NOT share your combination and/or lock Lockers • Do NOT share your locker • Make sure you check that your lock is properly shut before leaving the locker room (spin lock/ pull lock) • Clean out by designated time at end of semester Food/Drink • Keep out of locker room and gym facilities
KW STUDENTS & STAFF • DO NOT CLIMB THE BLEACHERS
MEDICALS • Any Dr. or parent medical note must be taken to the school Nurse prior to PE class • Nurse will give you a slip to give to your PE teacher Parent Notes • May have 2 per semester • Each note good for 2 days • If more time needed, see a Dr.
GENERAL MEDICAL DAILY PROCEDURES • Get a library/internet pass DAILY from your teacher before the dress bell rings • All medicals MUST go to the library during their PE class & sign-in. • Failure to report to the library = Unexcused absence & cut class referral • Assignments are to be worked on individually, NOT as a group • If library is closed stay with your teacher.
MEDICALS 1 - 4 days w/ Dr. note or 1-2 day Parent Note • In numerical order, complete an article critique from your teacher daily and turn in to your teacher by the end of that school day • You may consult the KW Edline WebPage link to the PE Resource Handbook for the article critique assignments. • Each critique is worth 10 points for your daily participation points
MEDICALS For every WEEK w/ Dr. note (up to 3 weeks) • Complete a 3- 4 page research paper • Worth 50 points • Due end of school day on Friday of each week of medical • See “Projects” section PE Resource Handbook on the KW Edline WebPage
MEDICALS For every MONTH w/ Dr. note • Complete a book report from the PE Reference Pieces • Each class, you will go to the library and read 2-3 chapters of your book (you may not check it out) • DAILY – Complete & turn in the “Reading Log” worksheet • FINISH BOOK – complete “Reading Record Chart” worksheet & write a 3-4 page report using the PE Resource Handbook as a guide for the requirements • DUE at end of 10th class period of medical by the end of the school day to your teacher • Worth 100 points of your grading period average
DESCRIPTORS DEFINED Always = 5/5 days a week Almost Always = 4/5 days a week Usually = 3/5 days a week Occasionally = 2/5 days a week Minimal = 1/5 days a week Inconsistently = 2-5 days a month Rarely = 1-2 days a month
Active Wear Examples (Tennis shoes are non-negotiable) • Must follow BHS school dress policy. Student is wearing the official BHS PE uniform shirt but has yellow shorts and tennis shoes. • Student is wearing the official red, black, or gray shorts, but not the official BHS PE Uniform shirt and tennis shoes. • Has “Active Wear” items on that they did not wear in the building as part of their school clothes for the day. For example they have yellow shorts and a white t-shirt and tennis shoes. • No jeans or denim. • Can wear “Active Wear” items in place of the official BHS PE uniform shirt and/or red, black, or gray shorts or sweats • NO flip-flops,flats, boots, high heels, etc = 0 participation points and send the student to the PESH.
COMMON ASSESSMENTS (25%) • CA 1 CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS • 5% OF YOUR FINAL EXAM GRADE • CA 2 MUSCLE FITNESS • 5 % OF YOU FINAL EXAM GRADE • CA 3 NUTRITION FITNESS OR WORK-OUT PLAN • 5% OF YOUR FINAL EXAM GRADE • 4 FINAL ASSESSMENT • 10% OF YOUR FINAL EXAM GRADE
WEIGHTING OF GRADES • All classes will take Final Exams * Seniors with: 1) an “A” 2) less than 3 excused absences and 3) no Unexcused absences (includes ditch days) will be exempt from taking the Final Exam
