Southwark Safeguarding Children Board Develop policy and procedure for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children Ensure the effectiveness of the work Co-ordinate local work Undertake Serious Case Reviews Monitor and evaluate effectiveness co-ordinate response to unexpected child death Challenge andscrutinise the Children’s Trust Board Participate in the Children and Young Peoples Plan ensure SCR lessons learned are implemented

Safeguarding Children Board • New independent chair- Michael O’Connor • Reviewed performance management and quality assurance framework-new Board process • Childs journey early help, intervention and assessment and long term support and safeguarding • Clarity between Executive and Main Board (decision making and in depth exploration) • Include feedback from the front line and service users • Audit system compliments other data • Currently have a child sexual exploitation task and finish group • Proposal for education sub group to ensure full engagement across the age groups • Currently working to develop our faith and community representation and engagement

SSCB Sub- Groups and methods of working • Audit & Learning Sub-group • Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) Sub- Group • Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Task and Finish Group • Human Resources Sub- Group • Practice Development and Training • Serious Case Review (SCR) Sub- Group • Sub-groups are multi-agency, strategic in focus and representation with additional specialist professionals invited to attend where appropriate • Each sub-group has distinct objectives and pursues its own individual work stream. Subgroups report the outcomes of their work streams to the main board, including the implications of these for other groups.

SSCB Sub- GroupsNext steps • Audit and Learning: • Identifies subjects to audit from performance data to board • Multi agency audits completed • Multi agency ‘systems’ audit model used to explore cases • Human resources: • Ensure compliance with changes to Disclosure and Barring Scheme. • Support multi agency training in the above changes and the Working Together guidance re Lado role • Practice Development and Training: • Skills gap and workforce development need audit across the multi-agency. • Continued roll-out and Implementation of Signs of Safety. • Develop e learning • Quality assure the SSCB training offer • Progress the SSCB newsletter • CDOP: • To ensure that all partner agencies have nominated deputies for CDOP • To develop, with the LSCB, ways to enhance the implementation of CDOP recommendations • Child sexual exploitation • Develop action plan to ensure effective response to issues arising • Progress the Pan London operating protocol for police and monitor impact

  7. SSCB focus for next deep dive • Deep dive in September Main Board • Neglect • Child sexual exploitation • Private fostering • Faith and community engagement • Over summer focus groups • Lead to engagement in board/sub group/increase in lay membership
