Aim • The investigation of health issues such as smoking, alcohol consumption, eating habits, physical exercise and sleep problems among the personnel of the Hellenic Network of Health Promoting Hospitals.
Material & Method • A sample of 345 employees from 7 hospitals • Response rate: 80% (278 employees) Men: 36.3% (101 employees) Women:57.9% (161 employees) • A specifically modified questionnaire, including health related questions was distributed to be completed by the sample.
Results • Smoking: • 44.7 % smoked • 17.4 % smoked less than 10 cigarettes daily • 27.3% smoked more than 10 cigarettes per day
Results • Alcohol weekly consumption: • 72.3% of men was within the recommended limits • 7.9% of men exceeded those limits • Corresponding percentages for women were 58.4% and 4.3%.
Results • Eating habits: • 81.7% of the participants consumed red meat 2-3 times per week • Physical exercise: • 25.8% regular exercise (2-3 times a week) • 34.3% 1 time a week
Results • Smoking: • 55.3 % did not smoke • 17.4 % smoked less than 10 cigarettes daily • 27.3% smoked more than 10 cigarettes per day
Conclusions • It is of great importance to start designing and implementing health promotion programs targeting unhealthy behaviors in order to improve the quality of life of the personnel who are working in the collaborating hospitals of Health Promotion Hospital Network in Greece.
