Completing The Common Application FERPA Release Authorization & Requesting Teacher Recommendations in Naviance
Make sure that your personal information in Naviance matches what you have entered in the Common App. This information must be identical in both programs. Click “edit” to make changes to you Naviance profile.
Once you have successfully completed the FERPA Authorization, and Matched your Common App with your Naviance Account – you will see the message below at the bottom of your “colleges I’m applying to” page.
If you don’t waive your right to view recommendations in the Common App, all of your teachers and counselors will seethe red warning below on their side of Naviance.
To Request a Teacher Recommendation: Do NOT attempt to assign recommenders via the Common Application! Determine how many Teacher Recommendations your colleges require. Speak to the Teacher(s) in person to confirm that they will be willing to write you a recommendation. Complete a Teacher's Recommendation Questionnaire for each Teacher in Naviance. Confirm your request by submitting it to the Teacher(s) in Naviance – make sure to communicate which colleges you’re asking them to submit recommendations to, along with any special instructions (i.e. early action deadlines etc…)
Type note(s) to teachers in these boxes Select teacher’s name.
In your note make sure to communicate which colleges you’re asking the teacher to submit recommendations to, along with any special instructions (i.e. early action deadlines etc…)
This is how your “colleges I’m applying to” page will look once you have: • Entered all of the colleges you are applying to • You have submitted your Teacher Recommendation requests • You have successfully matched your Naviance account with your Common Application.
