HARVEST DETAILS Appellation: 75% Amador County, 25% California Delta WINE INFORMATION Composition: 83% Zinfandel, 10% Barbera, 7% Syrah Alcohol: 13.8% TA: 0.55g/100ml pH: 3.54 Residual Sugar: 0.3g/100ml • VINEYARD INFORMATION • Amador County’s well-drained granite hillsides are ideal for growing zinfandel. This 2005 Amador Zinfandel is sourced from mature vineyards, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. • WINEMAKING • Grapes come into the cellar in late September. Before going to the destemmer crusher we bleed off some of the free-run liquid thus decreasing the juice to skin ratio and increasing flavor intensity. The must was then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 14 days. During fermentation the wine is drained and pumped over the grape skin and seed cap at 90 minute intervals. The finished wine is transferred to a combination of French and American Oaks barrels for aging. • WINEMAKER NOTES • Medium-bodied on the palate, the wine displays bright raspberries and blackberries with spice and mocha notes. • THE THREE Z’S – FUN FACTS “AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS” • Amador County is one of America’s oldest wine growing regions. Italian immigrants searching for Gold in the Sierra foothills of California planted vines there in the mid-1800’s. • Zinfandel is the 3rd largest grape crop planted in California behind Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. • Long considered indigenous to California, Zinfandel was thought to be originally transplanted from Italy when in fact its genetic roots have been traced to Croatia.
