Metropolitan Family Services (MFS) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Programs MFS Mental Health Programs provided services to over 2,200 children in Cook and DuPage Counties in FY 2014 Child and Adolescent outpatient services (C & A) Screening, Assessment and Support Services (SASS) Systems of Care (SOC) Mental Health Juvenile Justice Program (MHJJ) Adoption Preservation (AP) *1500 of those children were seen in the SASS and C&A programs
The Challenge – Child Psychiatry Shortage Back log for psychiatric evaluations for SASS and C&A clients Minimal access to psychiatric services for other MH programs within MFS; SOC, MHJJ, AP Hourly cost for in-person psychiatry has out paced reimbursement rates.
MFS Pilot MFS proposes implementing Telehealth within it’s exisiting C&A and SASS program. Originating sites: South Chicago, Blue Island, Palos Hills centers Additional MFS Staffing: 0.50 FTE Nurse Distant site(s): Contracted services. Costs: Originating Site equipment EHR customization Initial year of Nurse FTE
Outcomes Increase in psychiatry hours and ability to flex those hours as needed to adjust to seasonal changes in volume. Increased flexibility for families in locations services can be received. Increased ability to control costs and pursue a sustainable psychiatry service. Decreased back log in psychiatry appointments Increase access to psychiatry for other MFS program such as AP and MHJJ
