2. Hardrocker Flying Club HFC is an organization made up of Tech students, alumni, faculty & staff, and community members. The HFC welcomes zero time pilots as well as experienced pilots. • Student Membership: Students of SDSMT • Student Membership Flying Status: Students of SDSMT who use the Hardrocker Airplane • Regular Membership: Alumni, Faculty & Staff of SDSMT and their immediate families • Associate Membership: Persons not fitting into the other classes of membership

Dues Student Members (regular or special students of SDSM&T) Yearly Dues:  $20 Student Members – Flying Status  (regular or special students of SDSM&T) Initial Fee:    $55 Monthly Dues:  $30 Aircraft Rates:   $60/hr dry [***special ***now $35/hr dry until $7000 is expended] Key Deposit:     $55 (refundable when keys are returned) Regular Members (staff, faculty, & alumni of SDSM&T & their immediate families) Initial Fee:    $125 Monthly Dues:  $40 Aircraft Rates:   $70/hr dry Key Deposit:     $55 (refundable when keys are returned) Associate Members (persons not covered by above memberships) Initial Fee:    $300 Monthly Dues:  $42 Aircraft Rate:    $92/hr dry Key Deposit:     $55 (refundable when keys are returned)

7. Private Pilots License • Fly in VFR weather conditions (3 miles visibility, cannot fly into clouds) • Fly at any time, day or night • Fly into/out of any civil U.S. airport • Carry passengers • Passengers can pay up to their equal share of the flight costs

8. Requirements – on the ground • Third Class Medical Certificate • Required for your first solo • Valid for 3 years • 70% or better on written exam • All questions are published, answers are provided • Multiple choice format.

Requirements – in the air • At least 40 hours of flight time (40-70 average) • instructor required until solo flight (~10-20 hours) • 3 hours cross country • One flight over 100nm start to finish • 3 hours night • 3 hours instrument • 10 hours solo minimum • 5 hours cross country • One flight over 150nm with three landings

10. Typical Lesson • 2 hour block • 1 hour of maneuvers/skills practice near airport • Steep turns • Slow flight/stalls • Instrument flying • Emergency procedures • ½ hour of pattern work • Different types of takeoffs/landings • ½ hour to park plane, debrief lesson
