Husky Programs Center for Public Health and Health Policy Susan Furbish, RD Assistant Director Community Programs Student Involvement Community Impact Husky Reads: Improving literacy, while introducing new foods and basic nutrition information to preschool-aged children living in underserved areas in Connecticut. Husky Nutrition: Providing basic nutrition and health education, and the tools to teach healthy food preparation and food safety practices to elementary and middle school-aged children and families. Healthy Aging: Using hands on activities to engage older adult learners through reliable and relevant nutrition messages. Programs funded by the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. 112 Students Participated in the 2013 - 2013 academic year 1,357 students involved since 2000 21,700 hours of community engagement since Fall 2007 • Husky Programs reached 8,014 • SNAP Participants in FY 2013 • Educational Programs delivered at • 119 Community locations such as: • Public Housing sites (36) • Preschools (27) • Community Centers (9) • WIC and Health Centers (7) • Boys and Girls Clubs (6) • Health Fairs (6) • Farmers Markets (4) • Public Libraries (3) Community Engagement Hours read ∙ cook∙ learn ∙ grow
