  2. Simile • Simile-using like or as to compare 2 things. • My dad’s is bald as a eagle.

  3. Metaphor • Metaphor-comparing 2 things without using like or as;something is something else. • The lady’s hair was bone white.

  4. Hyperbole • Hyperbole-using exaggeration to make a point. • My mom has a million things to do Monday.

  5. Onomatopoeia • Onomatopoeia-sound word;bang,tick-tock. • The car went clickity-clack down the street.

  6. Personification • Personification-giving human qualities to something not human. • The trees were dancing in the wind.

  7. Alliteration • Alliteration-repetition of beginning sound: the brown bear ate berries by the bay. • Harry had hairy legs.

  8. Idiom • Idiom-a well known expression that does not mean what it says:cat got you tongue. • The king lives high on the hog.
