Big Ideas of PowerTeaching • An instructional process that links PA Standards Aligned System to research-proven instructional processes that increase student achievement. • Can be used with any textbook or curriculum • Moves from a teacher-centered classroom to a student centered classroom • Focuses on teamwork
Description • Teamwork is the theme of PowerTeaching and cooperative learning is stressed. Students are placed into teams and they learn how to work together to solve problems. They are learning skills to help them achieve in the 21st century. Students learn to help motivate and learn together. They learn how to explain their thinking and how to listen to their peers way of thinking; enhances their own understanding. The success of the team depends upon the individual learning of each team member so students are held accountable for their own learning.
Strategies PowerTeaching uses the following strategies: • Warm up (problem of the day) • Get the goof • Random reporter (popsicle sticks) • Minute assessments (thumbs up, choral response, whiteboards) • Exit tickets (closure)
Will this Strategy work best for one type of student over another • Although students are at varying ability levels, Powerteaching allows all students to have equal opportunities for success. In their teams, students practice active listening, encourage others, participate, explain their ideas, and complete tasks. Students learn new math concepts through exploration and discussion
