What is slavery? • Slavery is the act of forcing someone to work against their will. This isn’t the first or the last time that this has been done. It first came up 10 thousand years ago in ancient Babylon and still is going on in some emerging countries. The South never had slavery because the North said they were so the South can’t be accused of having it.
What happened in the Civil War? • The Civil War was the most deadly battle on the United States land and killed two percent of the population. The South broke off of the Union and the North said that they couldn’t so they went to war.
Did the Union win or did the Confederates lose? • The North won the Civil War. They made several mistakes but the war was a numbers war. The North had to many men and to many guns so they won by just attacking and absorbing loses like the Russians in WWII. The South couldn’t have done anything to stop or change the outcome so it isn’t their fault that they lost.
How can you rebuild a nation torn in two? • You really can’t rebuild a nation hurt like that. The Southern economy is ruined and their workforce is gone so they are in a world of pain. The North is acting like it is the South’s fault so the country will not be fixed easily.
How did slavery impact the Civil War? • Slavery was very important in the Civil War. Slavers were used on both sides in divisions so they could earn their freedom. Also slavery was the so called Northern excuse for starting it. Without slavery the Civil War never would have happened.
How did the Civil War begin? • The Civil War really began for one main reason; the election of 1860. Lincoln won the vote but he didn’t receive any votes from the South. The South got mad and revolted which is allowed in the Constitution but the North didn’t want them to so they tried to kill them.
