  5. Early Humans • Homo Sapiens • 400,000 years ago • Large-brained During the last ice age between 100,000 B.C. and 8000 B.C. the water level in the oceans dropped revealing a land bridge over the Bering Strait connecting Asia and North America

  6. The Stone Age • Paleolithic Age (500,000 years ago to 10,000 years ago) • Hunter-gatherers that moved from place to place • The climate began to get warmer • Made and used flint tools

  7. The Stone Age • Mesolithic Age (10,000 years ago to 8,000 years ago) • Climate continued to get warmer • The microlith was invented- A small triangular shaped blade of stone used in knives and spears • Other inventions: boats from hollowed logs, the bow and arrow, fishing nets and hooks

  8. The Stone Age • Neolithic Revolution (8,000 years ago to 5,000 years ago) • Agriculture: People learned how to plant and harvest crops • People began to live in cities and towns • The first governments were formed • People began to use metals, leading to the end of the Stone Age
