An Overview of Sexual Offending January 2013 • 404,000 women victim/survivors of sexual violence in a year including 85,000 victim/survivors of rape • 1 in 5 women report being a victim/survivor of some form of sexual offence since the age of 16 • 90% of victim/survivors of the most serious sexual offences in the previous year knew their perpetrator compared with less than half for other sexual offences
Response to Sexual Violence Needs Assessment • 12,742 people would have experienced sexual assault during that year • 2,548 people(2,121 females and 427 males) would have experienced serious sexual assault during that year • 72,925 women and 10,671 men would have experienced any sexual offence since the age of 16 • Of these 18,252 people will have experienced serious sexual assault since the age of 16

Who Do We Work With? • Women only • 16+ • No upper age limit • Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender • Black, Minority Ethic, Refugee • Women with physical disabilities • Women with learning disabilities
Counselling • One full-time counsellor • Provide outreach counselling in Blyth, Morpeth, Hexham, Alnwick and Berwick • Person-centred/Women-centred counselling • Use creative counselling techniques to reach some of the more traumatic memories
Telephone Support Helpline • Run jointly with Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre • On a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6.00pm to 8.30pm • It runs from Northumberland on a Wednesday • Entirely staffed by woman volunteers from Northumberland • Volunteers undergo an extensive training and development programme before taking calls

Information • How do you report to the Police and what happens when you do? • What is involved in the court process if I decide to pursue a prosecution? • Who supports male (heterosexual and gay) survivors? • Who supports women who have experienced domestic violence without a sexual element?
