  2. INVOLVE National advisory group. Funded by the Department of Health since 1996. One of the National Institute for Health Research Programmes (NIHR). Promotes active involvement of the public in NHS, public health and social care research www.invo.org.uk

Research carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ • For example: • involvement on steering committees • commenting on design • as joint collaborators • We use the term ‘public’ to include patients, service users, carers, and representatives of people who use services www.invo.org.uk
