  4. Constructivist Lesson Plan • You may use a lesson or unit that was created in another class. It must meet all of the requirements. Cite the class and other resources. • Read the whole assignment. • Respond to the questions. • Add a question about motivation. • Check against the rubric. • Select an academic concept – just one concept, not a related set of concepts – that you hope to teach to students.

  5. The Lesson Must Include: • Grade Level and Academic Subject • Learning Objective: Academic Concept to be Taught/What the Student will Know and Be Able to Do • Materials to be Prepared Ahead of Time • Key Vocabulary Terms Related to the Lesson Concept

  6. The Lesson Must Include: • Opening Activity: Get Students Set to Learn by Engaging their Prior Knowledge • Instruction: Provide New Information Effectively and Accommodate Individual Learners’ Needs for Challenge or Extra Help • Check for Understanding and Give Guided Practice

  7. The Lesson Must: • Allow for Independent Practice • Assess Student Learning • Extension Activities: What else can students do over the coming days or at home?

  8. You as a Student • Visualize yourself and your perspective as a secondary student. In other words, if you were a high school student during this time, what might you be thinking/feeling under these circumstances? How is state testing affecting your learning?

  9. You as a Teacher • You are experiencing pressure from administrators and parents to improve test scores, • pressure to limit teaching to what is tested, and • to change teaching methods in ways that you believe are not beneficial. • How is this affecting your ability to teach?

  10. As a Principal • You are being pressured by parents, the school board and the superintendent to improve test scores. • How does this affect your role as a principal?
