Objective of Training Participants will learn a variety of ways that encourage parents to be engaged in their child's education and preschool program.
Parent Engagement Begins with Teamwork FAMILY SERVICES EDUCATION HEALTH AND NUTRITION TRANSPORTATION ADMINISTRATION CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Parent Engagement in Education • Invite parents to the classroom to share knowledge about their child’s development- Parents are the expert on their children • Encourage parents to attend parent-teacher conferences • Encourage parents to assist with the monthly newsletter
Parent Engagement in Education cont. • Invite returning parents to share their experience with new parents • Ask parents to help design classroom bulletin boards • Invite new parents to the classroom before school officially starts • Invite parents on field trips • Ask parents to fill in for you on your • off day
Parent Engagment Nutrition/Health • Nutrition • Invite Parents to join children during meal time • Ask parents for suggestions for the menu • Schedule a trip to the local grocery store- share ideas on how to read labels, how to search for coupons, how to plan meals at home • Invite parents to a “making healthy snacks” workshop
Parent EngagementNutrition/Health cont. • Health • Invite parents to the Health Services Advisory Committee (HSAC )meetings • Ask parents to assist when putting together health trainings • Schedule a trip to the dental office with a group of parents • Schedule health workshops that focus on common health concerns (i.e. asthma, allergies, etc.) and invite parents to attend the workshop • Invite parents to participate in the enrollment screenings.
Transportation • Invite parents to ride the school bus before or after school • Invite parents to ride the school bus for field trips
Administration • Invite parents for a coffee and conversation • Invite parents for a light breakfast

Male Engagement • Inform parents about the male involvement program • Invite dads to different events • Invite dads to the classroom to volunteer • Ask dads for their input • Inform upon parents that the male involvement is not just for dads it is for any male involved in the child’s life

Remember…Not All Relationships Are Developed Equally Some parents are like brick walls… Some parents are like a rod iron fence… Some parents are like cotton balls… But they all want what is best for their children
