  3. Neoclassicism(1780s-1830s) The Neoclassic movement in painting began in the mid-1700s as a reaction to the decorative style of the Rococo movement. Unlike the garish excess of Rococo, neoclassic paintings featured clean lines and depicted heroic figures of Ancient Greece and Rome. Governed by the ideals of the Age of Reason, Neoclassic art was intellectual and restrained.

  4. Who created it? Jacques-Louis David was a founder of France neoclassicism. Neoclassicism was mainly influenced in France. He was an influential French painter in the Neoclassical style, considered to be the preeminent painter of the era. David later became an active supporter of theFrench Revolution and Napoleon I was at this time that he developed his Empire style. Portrait(1794) by Jacques-Louis David

  5. “Noble Simplicity&Calm Grandeur." Neoclassical paintings have sharp outlines, reserved emotions, deliberate (often mathematical) composition, and cool colors. The paintings usually have a moral behind it or "meaning" and it was supposed to educated or motivate or inspire the public. It uses manly and heroic themes and prefer historical events of Rome

  6. What is different from Classicism? Neoclassicism Classicism The Death of Socrates(1787) by J. L. David Echo and Narcissus(1628-30) by Nicolas Poussin

  7. Why was it created? Neoclassicism arose from a rejection of the then-dominant style of art known as Rococo which was viewed to be frivolous and overcomplicating with its use of colors and curving forms. Neoclassical painters wanted to remove themselves from this approach to painting, and it found its ideal source: the past. At the time, classical antiquity became the popular motif with the archaeological discoveries and newfound interest in classical Roman and Greek societies. If the art of the new world represented a “decadence”, then painters turned to what was in their view a more composed, simple, and virtuous society for inspiration to paint.
