The Basics of Serving God • Fear the Lord your God. • Deut. 6:2; Prov. 1:7; Prov. 9:10; 1 Sam. 12:14-15; Deut. 5:32; Eccl. 12:13 • The fear of the Lord is the beginning. • Neglecting to fear God leads to destruction. • Fear was the motivation to keep God’s commands. • Fear and Obedience go hand in hand.

  3. The Basics of Serving God • Blessings come to the Obedient • Deut. 6:3; Deut. 5:33; 1 John 5:1-5 • Think about what could have been for the Israelites. • Obedience brings reward. • The reward far outweighs the sacrifice.

The Basics of Serving God • Love God with all your heart. • Deut. 6:5; Deut. 6:14-15; John 14:15,21,23-24 • God has always wanted the exclusive love of His people. • Split love, split loyalties brought about Israel’s downfall. • God wants us to love Him as He loved us. • Love and Obedience go hand in hand.

  5. The Basics of Serving God • Learn the word. • Deut. 6:1,2,3,6,7,8-9; Judges 2:10; Hosea 4:6 • Before you can do God’s commandments, you must know them. • Destroyed for lack of knowledge. • How can you know God’s will if you don’t open the book?

  6. The Basics of Serving God • Teach your children. • Deut. 6:7; Eccl. 12:1-8 • Serve God while you’re young. • Eli, Samuel, David, & others struggled with raising Godly children. • What did they miss?
