Benefits of family literacy programs “Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.” – Joseph Addison, 17th century English politician • What different types of literacies are there? • What benefits from them can we can see for families? • What benefits can we see for individuals? • Are organized programs important? • What skills can they teach?

Challenges in implementing family literacy programs “I’ve always loved a challenge.” – Lana Turner, American actress • Challenges do not have to be barriers! • How do we properly assess families’ literacy needs? • What challenges exist in developing family literacy programs based on these needs? • What challenges exist in implementing these programs?
