3. VINCENT VAN GOGH *30.3.1853 v Holandsku †29.7.1890 v Auvers (Francie) Byl holandský malíř a grafik, ale uznání získal až po smrti. Zcela věnoval svůj život umění. Svou svárlivostí a vznětlivostí odpuzoval své přátele. Toužil po lásce, která však nikdy nebyla naplněna. Velmi pěkný vztah měl k bratrovi Theovi. Ten s ním udržoval živou korespondenci po dobu pobytu v ústavu. Při malování svých obrazů používal výrazné až ostré barvy a hrubé tahy štětcem. Maloval ve vypětí až k mdlobám. Při vážné duševní poruše si uřízl ucho. Maloval dál i v léčebných ústavech. Nakonec se postřelil a o dva dny nato umírá.
